Mission Bed Frame 29 Aug 2014
Some updates on the mission bed my son, his wife and I are building. I just clamped up the headboard tonight and it looks great.
I have to build the top cap on for this headboard and complete the rails, then apply the finish. My shop is really getting messy - I need some time to do some cleaning.
Wait... I'm retired... all I have is time.

The last piece is glued in and bearing up under the weigh of the clamps. Here is a shot of the headboard before we apply the finish. The footboard has one coat of finish in this picture. The bed side rails are housed in massive mortises, and bolted together with 7" X 3/8" bolts. This is an extremely ridged bed frame.
I like this bed... I should just keep the thing and use it to nap on between projects.

It takes about two hours to sand the frame and re-coat it. There are five coats on this bed, so finishing it was a real task. I delivered it to my son and his wife today. Here it is in situ... Ah bummer - the site lost my pictures. Sorry...
