Bronze Puzzle 26 August 2014
I built this on a whim; a whim I have been fostering for many years. On the obverse, there are four "T" pieces which fit into the recess rectilinearly. On the reverse side, the T pieces have to fit differently as the recess is smaller. Can you figure it out?
The machining was fun on this puzzle. I cut two pieces of 1/4" X 3-1/4" X 3-1/4" pieces of bronze and cut out the center using the mill. One piece has an opening which is 3/16" wider than the other. Then I cut the corners square using a die filer. Then I cut a piece of 1/6" X 3-1/4" X 3-1/4" copper and soldered the copper between the two pieces of bronze. You can see a bit of solder in the corners of the recesses - were I to make another of these, I would solder it from the outside and eliminate this mess.
