Han Solo's DL-44 Blaster 26 August 2014
Owning a real Star Wars blaster would be a lot of fun, but in lieu of that, building a replica is about half as good. There is a site dedicated to accurate replicas called theRPF.com, and they are fanatics about screen accuracy. A couple of the guys decided to provide the additional parts for a replica blaster which fans call the ANH Blaster, as it appeared in the A New Hope episode. There are a lot of Han Solo blasters in the first three films, but this one is the most recognizable. The second most popular is what is being dubbed "the Greedo killer" as it is the blaster Han used to do-in Greedo in the Mos Eisley cantina - and yes, Han shot first.
Here is a link which describes the effort that went into identifying the components.

The parts are used to convert a Denix replica broom-handled Mauser. I will post photos as I go, but his is a very nice example of one of the conversions.

I picked up a Denix replica Mauser and my rough machined parts arrived on Friday. I was putting up cherry trim in the house all weekend so I delayed starting the blaster until this morning, but I made good progress. This is about 95% complete. I have to work on the finish on the scope and flash hider and blacken the two nuts showing as silver. I will try to remember to post a picture of all the parts, but there was a lot of finish machining.

All done with this prop... I ended up painting the scope and flash suppressor, sanding a bit off to simulate a bit of battle fatigue, and applying a top coat. The Mauser conversion kit was machined by Dark Energy Creations.

I gave away the blaster when I decided to build another one. I was unhappy with the grips... OK, that is just about insane, but there you have it. I just put the finishing touches on my new one, which is supposed to look factory new rather than weathered. Photo soon...
